Propagation Month, Day 2: Morning Glory Seeds

Last year I grew some 'Heavenly Blue' morning glories that were really gorgeous. I saved some seeds and planted half of them a couple weeks ago, after soaking them overnight with boiling water. So far nothing has germinated, so I'm trying a different technique on the remaining seeds.

After checking out a forum discussion at Dave's Garden on germinating morning glories, I took each of the remaining seeds and filed them on an emery board just enough to wear off a tiny bit of the black coating. Now I'm soaking them overnight in a 50/50 mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide. If by tomorrow they look like they've swollen a bit, then they should be ready to germinate. I could then put them in a damp coffee filter or paper towel and keep them in a plastic bag for a few days until they actually sprout, but more likely I'll just plant them in Jiffy plugs and keep them inside until after they've germinated.

I hope this works. I've got the bamboo teepee all ready for these babies to climb on!
