San Francisco Flower & Garden Show 2010

Just a quick post to say that I hope you're planning a trip to the SF Flower & Garden Show, which runs through Sunday. The new owners of the show have done a terrific job. The demo gardens are great. It seems like there's less over-the-top design this year and more ideas you can really use. Amen to that. Here are some pics of my favorite of the demo gardens, The Salvaged Creole Jazz Courtyard by Santa Clara designer Dawn Engel:

A succulent fountain...

...complete with crocs

A musical rebar fence

Drums-turned-planters

If you go to the show, don't leave without attending one or more of the seminars. They present a great opportunity to hear and see new ideas from all kinds of garden pros.

  1. Thank you so much for posting about this. I talked about going back in January, and totally forgot. I can't wait to go to my first gardening show this weekend!

  2. Oh, I love the avant gardens! It seems like the one chance for designers to do something more artful, but I guess the economy is doing some talking this year. Can't wait to see it all! Thanks for the sneak peek!

  4. Where can I get a lobster like that;) The gates made of rebar were wonderful...wish I could be there in person (big sigh). What will the animal rights groups say about croc heads in the garden?

  8. San Francisco flowers are typical of the city's long history of popular society. Customs of opportunity of expression, counterculture exhibits, and profound political ties are extremely solid. Indeed, even today, the city is a magnet for nothing masterminds, craftsmen, and those looking to discover their place on the planet.
