An Alameda Garden: Orchid Madness at Fort Mason

Orchid Madness at Fort Mason

I found a cure (at least a temporary one) for the Bay Area winter blues. The San Francisco Orchid Society's annual Pacific Orchid Exposition is as close as I'll get to visiting the tropics this year but it was a refreshing break from the rain--and the gardening I'm not getting done because of the rain. If you're interested in stocking up on orchids, this was the place to shop. The variety was outstanding and the prices were reasonable. But I mostly went to ogle, and oh, was it worth the trip! Here's a taste of the goodies:

  1. I must be showing my ignorance here, but I didn't know California gardeners got the winter blues. I thought you lot gardened year 'round! Sounds like rain is your nemesis right now, snow and cold wind is mine. The monkey on a merry-go-round horse is something to behold...I wonder what the spectators at the show thought of it?

Thanks for sharing all the garden show pics with those such as myself that are heartily sick of winter.

  3. Xanadu! Oooh and ahhh is RIGHT! My success rate with orchids is at about 50% so far, it's wonderful to see so many beautiful blooms. I bet the smell in that place was wonderful! BTW, I'm having a seed giveaway, if you want to come on over and win some seeds! :)

  4. Wow! That masquerade mask is especially show-stopping... but even the lone flower shots are astonishing. Lucky you! :)
